Yes, professional photography is permitted and there’s no site fee when the fields are open to the public - just purchase entry tickets and you’re good to go. The following are NOT allowed: reflectors, flash boxes, tripods, props, or any other equipment that may get in the way of other guests Friday - Sunday. Drones are allowed, but before flight, speak to the staff at the check-in booth to discuss your flight plan. Please be aware that the farm is within 1 mile of Ona Airpark; therefore, please keep to a 100' ceiling to be clear of any local air traffic that may be utilizing the airport.
Yes, the Huntington Mall is only 6 miles away if you prefer large shopping centers. If you'd rather shop local, the City of Milton and the Village of Barboursville are nearby as well.
For the most up-to-date field reports, please check our Caldwell Farm Facebook page.
Flower snips are provided and are for adult use only. You may also bring your own snips. You may also want to bring a basket or bucket to hold your cut flowers while you explore the farm. Pick-your-own flowers are available on an as-available basis. Each paid admission includes one cut flower.
When you find a flower you like, break off as many leaves as you want and drop the leaves in the field (we usually leave only two or three leaves closest to the flower head).
Carefully use the snips to cut the stem as long or as short as you prefer (we recommend cutting the stems longer rather than shorter because you can't cut them longer)!
Trade your borrowed snips at the ticketing counter for rubber bands to form your bouquet. Pay for your cut flowers at the ticketing area.
You may want to bring your own small bucket with water to keep your flowers hydrated on the ride home.
Trim 1/4 inch off of the ends when you get home and place the flowers in clean water. Change the water every two days and keep the flowers away from direct sunlight and heat. Wilty flowers usually perk right up after being placed in cold water.
Sunflower seeds, water, and cold beverages are available in the ticketing area. Check the Caldwell Farm Facebook page to see if any food trucks will be at the farm on the day of your visit. You are also welcome to bring a blanket and picnic basket and have a meal among the flowers.
Due to the short inaugural season, there are no restroom facilities available. The nearest restroom is available in Ona at the Arby's restaurant.
This is a difficult question and ultimately depends on the capability of the person visiting and the limitations of the particular disability. There are no paved surfaces. Parking is in a grass field adjacent to the sunflower fields. The terrain can be bumpy at times and depending on our most recent rain, it may be wet, soft, or muddy in spots.
You are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance as there is a limited number of tickets available for each time slot. If you prefer to wait to purchase tickets, please understand that your preferred date and time may sell out.
Are tickets refundable or changeable?
For a full refund, cancel at least 4 days before the activity is scheduled to start. If there is a closure due to severe weather, a rain check will be issued and you may select another date should one be available. Should this occur, please check your email for further instructions on how to reschedule.
No. The farm is ONLY open to the public during the sunflower season for those who have purchased tickets.
Yes, but please be aware that all strollers are not made to roll over the ground in the fields, especially after a rain event.

You will be driving on asphalt, gravel, and grass roadways to get to the sunflower field.
Yes. Please respect and be aware of what is going on around you. There are many electric fences used to keep the cattle in their pastures.
